Breaking Down 2 Credit Card Settlement Debt Myths

Finance & Money Blog

If you have a lot of credit card debt, you have probably heard of credit card settlement services. They are services that help you reduce and settle your credit card debt. Many people hold wrong conceptions about how to deal with credit card debt and the settlement process that can allow you to pay off some of your credit card debt.

Myth #1: Anyone Can Get Their Debt Reduced

First, many people wrongly believe that anyone can just get their debt reduced by just calling their credit card company and asking to settle. However, this is no true.

Your credit card company will generally only agree to reducing your debt if there is a reason to do so. They want proof that you lost a job, or that you get a deep pay cut, or that you are going through medical problems.

They may also be interested in settling your debt with you if you have not been making your payments for a long time. The credit card company would rather has some money than no money at all from you, and may be interested in a settlement offer if have not been getting paid.

Getting a settlement offer is a negotiation process, and a credit card settlement service can help with that process. They can reason with the credit card company, and get them to agree to a reduced payment to pay off your credit card debt.

Myth #2: Debt Settlement Doesn't Hurt My Credit Score

Second, many people believe that debt settlement doesn't hurt their credit score. However, that is not true. Most credit card companies will report the default payments and the settlement offers to the credit reporting agency. If the credit reporting agency reports the settlement, it will have a negative impact on your credit score for a short period of time.

However, paying off your credit card debt, and then continuing to make all of your payments on time, can help your credit score. Settling your debt, and moving forward and making smart financial decisions will help your credit score.

Dealing with an excessive credit card debt can be really challenging. If you have too much credit card debt, and you are trying to get back on your financial footing, you need to work with a credit card settlement company. They can work together with to help you manage your debt, and get back on strong financial footing.
